Bespoke Packages for Post 16 Learners

At The Seeds of Change we offer bespoke packages for Post 16 students who are not yet ready to progress through mainstream higher education. We work closely with Personal Advisors from local authorities to develop personalised programmes to support learners, both in their personal development and academic achievement.

Michael was referred to us by his old school, as advised by his personal advisor at the local authority. He has ASD and due to his significant anxieties around change, group dynamics and sensory overload, he had been educated at home by outreach teachers from his school.

When Michael first came to the Seeds of Change, he demonstrated lots of classic ASD/anxious behaviours, frequent outbursts at home due to difficulties understanding and tolerating his siblings, and he didn’t have any post 16 plans.

His personal advisor thought our quiet, nurturing and therapeutic environment would be ideal for him; also a very different environment from anywhere he was used to.

During Michael's first visit he was very nervous, both meeting his coach and the horses. However, once he met Bertie the horse, everything changed. He was more relaxed; talking and laughing. His relationship continued to grow positively, and he is now utilising the transferable learning in his personal life away from sessions.

Michael started on a 1 to 1 programme that had been specifically developed to address his personal barriers. Using the horse to build trust and act as a learning partner, Michael was coached through a series of tasks to work through his personal issues to improve his confidence and self-belief.

He has now progressed onto a longer term programme with us post 16, and due to his high level of need and previous difficulties we put together a bespoke package for him.

In Michael’s recent review, his mother commented ‘I feel that Michael has progressed a lot, he enjoys his sessions and is beginning to show and express what he is learning in day to day life.’
