C&G Employability Skills Programme

As part of our curriculum, we offer a City & Guilds Employability Skills programme for young people aged 14-19 years old. The programme is designed to support Key Stage 4 leaners to successfully gain a job, progress in a chosen field, prepare them for further study, and support the development of techniques that are required for successful independent living.

The qualification is made up of a series of units and the students enjoy a mixture of practical sessions with the horses, along with work in the study room completing tasks such as writing their CV’s and units in effective skills, qualities and attitudes for learning and work.

For one of the personal development tasks, the young people had to complete a project that would enrich the working environment at the Centre. Their idea was a new sign for the Acorn Centre using natural materials. This involved them planning their project; from discussing and agreeing on an idea through to completing it. After each session they had to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and suggest ways in which they could improve these during future sessions. I'm sure you will agree the end result looks really good!
