Discovery Programme Pond Dipping Project

As part of the Key Stage 3 Discovery programme our young people have been busy making pond dipping kits for their project based practical learning. Using recycled coat hangers, bamboo sticks and tights they made fishing nets to dip for mini beasts in the pond.

As part of the programme the young people had to plan and deliver their project as a group; communicating effectively and working together as part of a team. Throughout the tasks they had to record their findings and analyse the data they had gathered.

This project was enjoyed by the young people, especially fishing for the mini beasts and then identifying the critters to see what they had caught!

The Discovery programme is designed around project based learning with embedded functional skills, making the learning fun and practically based.

The programme provides tailored education and support to Key Stage 3 learners who are disengaged in education. It aims to develop personal skills along with a particular focus on Maths and English problem-solving, enabling learners to apply new skills effectively in real situations.

  • A range of project based practical learning
  • Embedded City & Guilds Functional Skills in Maths and English
  • 30 week programme generally accessed over 1 academic year
